The Locke thimble was created as a thimble for tailors by a tailor. It is a high quality cast alternative to the typical stamped open-top thimble used by tailors. Deep grooves for greater sewing traction, it is increasing the inclusivity and accessibility of handsewn tailoring as a craft by offering more sizes in a wider range and in materials that can be used by anyone.
The size range is currently (in mm): 13.5, 14, 14.5, 15, 15.5, 16, 16.5, 17, 17.5, 18, 18.5, 19. In the future the size range will increase a few sizes in each direction. The thimble has an elliptical design that better fits onto the finger than the circular design you usually see. The size refers to the primary diameter of the opening and is stamped on the inside. To find your size measure the width of your middle finger about level with the bottom of your nail and go down one size. I also have thimble sizing rings, or some other thing to call it.
Made in New Zealand, Tailors Perks is the current UK retailer of Locke Thimbles. I have almost all sizes in Silicon bronze and Nickel plated.
