This is my selection of finishing thread. Initially I stock the main 8 colours of the Perform-x waxed silamide skeins. This thread is used in the hand stitching and hand finishing of tailored clothing. It’s fineness and strength contributes to the longevity of clothing that is made to last. Silamide skeins are finer than most other finishing thread and just as strong. Being finer it is much smoother to sew with and a smaller needle can be used.
The supplementary colours can be bought as bobbins of thread at this moment. You can buy a shade card to see which colours are most appropriate for you.
The definition of skein is a single very long yarn or thread loosely coiled and knotted. It’s a way of storing threads or yarns for later use. In the case of hand-silk skeins the coil is cut to create hundreds of equal lengths of thread to be picked from and used efficiently. The skein is typically hung on something and it doesn’t keep getting moved around or require finding yours scissors every time you need a new length of thread.
