Description
Fancy butterfly basting thread skeins are a thread that can be best used for mark stitching. The cotton thread is not tightly woven so it creates reliable mark stitches in cloth. When it’s cut the individual yarns most easily spread out stopping it from pulling out of the cloth by itself and it’s slightly thicker so . The thread is a medium gauge for basting thread so it is easiest to use with medium sized needles.
Due to being less tightly woven this thread is less ideal for basting seams since it more easily catches against itself and becomes tangled when pulling a stitch through cloth.
Skeins have the advantage of being cut once into hundreds of lengths of thread that can be constantly pulled from. Since the thread is stored straight it is less likely to tangle when being used. Being pre-cut also means that you don’t have to cut or snap a new length of thread every time and you can thread it immediately.
The disadvantage is portability. It is more difficult to transport without it becoming fully tangled in itself. Another potential disadvantage when compared to reels of thread is that you can’t take different lengths based on the needs of the stitch you do.
